PABLO’s BIO.

He/Him/His

Remember: you must participate in the creative world you want to be a part of.
— John Waters

A California native, Pablo entered personal training after years of working in mental health and social services. His introduction to the gym world came as a way for him to treat personal struggles with mental illness. While studying psychology and practicing therapy, Pablo saw firsthand the benefit of physical activity on his clients' mental health. Drawing from personal experience and client reports, Pablo made the transition from mental health to fitness as a means to help others through exercise -- a decision he is extremely proud of.

2 decades of boxing trained Pablo to see fitness beyond a means to an end. Fitness, specifically resistance training, is a lifestyle that one must be dedicated to. A lifestyle that improves quality of life through its effects on physical health, cognition, emotional well-being, and confidence. The experience of playing a sport guided Pablo’s fitness practice to one that focuses on improving the quality of movement, strength, and power.

As an original Tonal Coach, Pablo’s platform grew, and with that growth, so did the responsibility of offering the best quality training. He found the platform Tonal granted him an opportunity to advocate for athletics and mental well-being in underrepresented populations–queer, immigrant, and BIPoC. He was able to find opportunities to incorporate dance, voguing, and creativity into strength and conditioning, showcasing that fitness is not one-dimensional, it does not exist in a rigid form. Everything can be an opportunity for fitness, and fitness without fun, without context, without passion, is meaningless tedium.

Pablo marries his skills as a therapist, boxer, and coach with the demands of a trainer with over 15 years of experience. Incorporating elements of mindfulness with the theoretical and practical knowledge of fitness training, Pablo advocates for the mind-body connection. His passions for exercise are traditional weight training, sports performance, and boxing. Pablo loves to move, often dancing, playing with his dog, and boxing.

Outside of fitness, Pablo is a busy man. He loves spending quality time with his husband and dog, Debbie, exploring the world around them. Pablo also runs a successful horror podcast, Scared Gay, to discuss one of his favorite topics, horror films. A big contributor to the queer cultural landscape of San Francisco, Pablo is a passionate performer. You can catch Pablo performing with Baloney, or producing his own Real Housewives themed cabaret show, Hunks and Housewives, and on stage with many of the exceptional drag queens in San Francisco and the USA.

TESTIMONIALS.

As a lifelong athlete, I came to Pablo to help me improve my rugby athleticism. His workouts were intense, but he taught me to rethink how to train while playing rugby. I gained strength and power for the sport, and it translated into me being a formidable player on the field. As a dancer and a performer, I also needed to make sure that I looked great on stage and moved well while dancing. Pablo took that into account with our exercises and I feel confident getting on stage thanks to his tutelage.

I’m deeply grateful for Pablo as my trainer. As a queer, disabled, person of color, the way that he generously offers care, warmth, and joy for my whole self matches his excellence and skill as a physical trainer, setting him apart from most in the industry. I attribute my reinvigoration for pursuing more rigorous fitness goals and increased confidence to exercise independently to the foundations he is helping me build in our work together. On top of that, it means the world that he does his own work to ensure our sessions are informed by accessibility and adaptive fitness (rather than relying on me to take on that labor as a client).

Thanks to Pablo I’ve been making gains—he’d be proud! Corset fits again! I can lift more than I’ve ever been able to. I found motivation to keep working out!
